Chris's family is from New Hampshire and we have spent many a wonderful and wondrous time there over the Christmas holiday and New Year. Although we miss being with them in person this year, the memories are rich enough to transport us instantly to the sights, sounds, and beauty of the area. We spend Christmas Eve at the Meriden Congregational Church for their glorious service. The candlelit steps to their front door is in invitation to everyone. This year, we did it by Zoom and recognized many folks on the "call". I like to sing and their service has all the Christmas hits...but it is much better in person as I typically sit next to my stepmother who is a fantastic singer (she is in her church's choir) so I can sing loudly and proudly without fear of repercussions. I am a terrible singer and it was particularly noticeable at home without the benefit of others around me. Christmas songs tend to be pitched a bit high and I am an alto at best. The view from my in-laws back porch is spectacular and what you expect from a New England image in your mind. We love taking photos of the Cornish-Windsor bridge in all seasons and like to catch the clouds and the sun over our favorite spots. if we overdose on natural beauty, we like to tour this amazing house in Claremont. They go all out for Christmas and the sheer volume of items allows you to immerse yourself in its lit splendor as well, kitsch and all. It is equally mesmerizing and magical...plus they raise money for a charitable cause. As a great side trip, we head over to Chester, Vermont, where they have a great independent bookstore and other gem spots like Vintage Vermont where you can find some great vintage ornaments to treasure as your own. Since my birthday is on Christmas Eve, I am rarely at a store. The last time we were out east for Christmas, we visited the bookstore in Chester and for the first time ever, I received a discount on my book haul because of it being on my birthday...first time ever!! Happy New Year to all of our family, friends, and new people we have yet to meet.
