Allowing Someone's Light to Shine Through

There is such a thing as experiencing someone else's light as it shines through and it can often be in unexpected places. I experienced it this morning at 6 Chicks in South Haven, MI. My girlfriend Carol and I, being vaccinated and still observing all the protocols (not sure why I feel i have to make sure you know this), got together for breakfast. On the surface, all very normal. We were chatting away, just enjoying each other's company, a sunny day, and a meal out, when we were informed by the manager that there was a gentleman several booths away who paid for BOTH of our breakfasts. I will not lie, it gave us goosebumps at the generosity and kindness shared by this stranger. It was definitely one of those moment makers that Carlos Whittaker talks about in his book, Moment Maker: You Can Live Your Life or It Will Live You. This was completely unintended but allowed this gentleman's light to shine on us revealing his light in turn. He had to exit the restaurant near where we were sitting, which gave us the opportunity to acknowledge his kindness. He said that our gestures and animated conversation reminded him of his two favorite aunts. Wow, and he then gave light to his two aunts. And here's the other thing...because of this, it extended our delightful conversation with the manager who felt part of the light. Carol and I were practically skipping out of the restaurant and already thinking about how we can do the same for someone....thereby extending the light that had been shared with us.
